HEINZ ALEXANDER REBLING 1922 - 2005 After a short but courageous battle with cancer, Heinz Rebling passed away on April 5, 2005 at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Ward at the age of 83 years. Heinz was born on January 8, 1922 in Einbeck, Germany. He came from a long line of Brewmasters and naturally he followed in his father's footsteps. After finishing high school he attended Brewing Technical College in Bavaria and then worked in several breweries in Germany. In 1950 he left Germany and travelled to Caracas, Venezuela to take a job as Brewmaster in one of the breweries there. He met his wife Lila in 1951 and they were married in June, 1952. The following year his only child, Stella was born. A few years later Heinz and his family moved to Palmira, a small village in the Andes where he took the job as Head Brewmaster. In 1963, he and his family moved to Maracaibo when a friend requested he work in the Brewery there. Since the hot climate disagreed with his family, his wife and daughter moved to Switzerland where he joined them half a year later. In 1964 Heinz and his family immigrated to Canada and lived in Toronto for six months before moving to Winnipeg and joining on as Brewmaster at Kiewel's Brewery. Kiewel's soon merged with Labatt's and Heinz remained there until he retired in 1983. His beloved wife Lila passed away in 1982. Heinz was predeceased by his younger brother Werner in 2002. Heinz loved baking cakes which he enjoyed sharing with his friends. He was an avid reader, stamp-collector and loved classical music and ballet. He spent his time tending his flower and vegetable garden. He took great pleasure in going strawberry picking every summer. He loved cats and nature, and took immense enjoyment from feeding and watching all the starlings and other birds that visited his feeders throughout the year. Several years ago he joined the German Society Choir where he made many new friends and found pleasure in sharing music with others. Heartfelt thanks go to all his friends who visited him while in hospital and without whose support Stella could not have managed. Many thanks to the wonderful care he received at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Ward and the doctors, nurses, student nurses, orderlies and nurses' aides for their incredible support and compassion. He leaves to mourn his daughter Stella in Winnipeg, sister-in-law Isolde, nephew Oliver, cousin Hanni and family, cousin Alex and family, cousin Anneliese, and his many friends in Germany, as well as, countless friends in Winnipeg, Calgary and Kamloops. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. After cremation, Heinz will rest, with his wife, at Brookside Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.budz.ca. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dear Stella -- It seems like yesterday that I spoke with your Dad at the new bank on Ellice Ave. He seemed in fine spirits. As I read the account of his life in the newspaper, I wished that I spoken to him more often about his interesting journey through life. We wish you well as you learn the live without his presence. • Our heartfelt sympathy to you Stella. We enjoyed our acquaintance with your father and his visits to us in B.C. The last time you accompanied him. He had such a zest for life - you were blessed to have had him as your father. Marie & Randy Rickwood (Parents of Kellee Huebsch) - Posted by: Randy and Marie Rickwood (Friend) on: Apr 10, 2005
